Just got a retail pack for an xp1900+. The fan is a bit LOUD. Does anybody know of the best replacement fan to sit on the same heatsink, provide the same cooling but a lot quieter.
Thanks
Dave.

for info. Maybe the HHC-L61 Super Heatpipe Cooler would work for you? You can buy them here http://www.scan.co.uk

If you intend on keeping the same heatsink and the fan screw into the sink and is not mounted strangely (a la FOP38, Thermalright SK6 etc), then if you ave the space, a very common way now is to fit a 60mm-80mm fan adaptor. You can get a fan that pushes the same cfm, but needs less rpm to do it. Also, the noise generated by the larger fan tends to be slightly deeper, so less obtrusive slightly.

Generally the quieter the fan the less air it shifts. However some fans are better quality than others. You get what you pay for.

What temps is your processor running at idle and at full load?
My Athlon 1800+ runs 39C at idle and 45C on full load. I use an 80mm AX7 heatsink with an 80mm YSTech fan running at 7volts. Its fairly quiet. My hard disks drown it out.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
I'll need to check the temps but the noise hit me as soon as I turned it on. Q fan is making it quieter on the ASUS board, but I wanted to try and keep the same heatsink (Coz I am lazy) and just bang another fan that is quieter on top. Where can you get the 60mm - 80mm adapters from ?
I had a conversation with AMD and they say that they don't care about the noise but just the cooling ability !!!
Dave.
