View Full Version : Fogs wired into Main beam

Have found on my MY99 that the fogs have been wired in to work with the main beam, which is cool as it makes night time driving better. However they don't work from the dash fog light switch anymore which is no good in fog as you don't want main beam in foggy conditions.
Anyone know if they can be wired up to work both with the mainbeam and from the dash switch so I can use them in both situations.

AFAIK, fogs should only operate with the Fog Light switch. Don't think it matters whether Main beam or dipped are on

Only PIAA's or other driving lamps should be wired to only come on with Full Beam.

Ozzy,

They are PIAAs (is that good or bad) does that mean they shouldn't be wired to work from the dash switch and they are working as designed?

You could still wire them up to the main beam easily enough for that 'extra' light when up on mains, then when you drop back to dips they come off, wouldn't be that difficult at all.

SS,

Yeah if they are PIAA's then they should ONLY come on when you have main beam. These are proper driving lights and not your pi$h 5W fog lamps. So, yes that's a good thing ;):D

To check the actual fog switch is working, simply put your car into main beam mode and press the fog light switch. Your PIAA's should come on/off and the fog light switch should light up green when they're on.

It's ILLEGAL to wire them up to the dipped beams as you could easily dazzle oncoming traffic with 120/130W bulbs
