View Full Version : Side protection strip? AndyS44 19 August 2002, 12:54 Anybody seen any side protection strips that don't look naff to help stop car park dings? gareth60 19 August 2002, 15:52 I've put the standard ones on but colour coded. Black strips looked horrible on a silver car!! V5-APS 24 August 2002, 17:07 What year car do you have m8?? Andy Tang 24 August 2002, 17:15 I was happy with the black strips breaking up the mass of silver and it stopped it looking like a big moving kitchen appliance!!!! http://www.ventric.co.uk/andytang/images/Subaru/sandyt.jpg [Edited to add a piccie] [Edited by Andy Tang - 8/24/2002 5:34:14 PM] Rasher 24 August 2002, 18:30 IMHO door dings look naffer!!!!!! gareth60 24 August 2002, 23:38 Silver MY02 with Colour coded strips... http://www.sambucus.co.uk/misc/sti-colour-coded-strips.jpg AndyS44 27 August 2002, 18:48 They both look good! Do they work ok though? Can I ask for part numbers and prices (painted & fitted) for an MY02 ? Cheers gareth60 27 August 2002, 22:14 Dunno if they work, because the car is still to new, but it must help a bit. As for the part numbers, just ask at your local subaru dealer, there is only one type for the MY02 and they are £50 for a set (ouch!). I got them sprayed at a local paint shop which cost me £30, but i've been told that Subaru will paint them also. Hope this helps Gareth. AndyS44 28 August 2002, 12:56 ???My dealer quoted me £143 and they needed painting! Is £50 for the WRX ones fitted DIY? Part numbers would really help? Finally, did you have to remove the STI stickers along doors? TolTec 28 August 2002, 13:20 Strangely enough I have just asked a dealer for a price for colour coded strips on my '99 DBM. I will post the price when they ring back. £226.20 colour coded and fitted. £42+Vat black fit yourself. Edited to add quotes. [Edited by TolTec - 8/28/2002 2:49:24 PM] ozzy 28 August 2002, 16:22 Those prices are fecking outrageous. I've just had an estimate for a completely new door and that worked out at £98+VAT for paint materials. So how can the charge £180 for painting 4 strips of rubber  Get them standard and ask any local bodyshop to spray them for you. Stefan TolTec 28 August 2002, 16:50 Stefan, yeah, I thought they were taking the pi$$ myself so I am checking out the alternatives. I am told there is a 'plasticiser' which must be added to the paint to make it flexible otherwise it will flake off. The wife reckons they will look OK in black - but then she is an accounts clerk. Chris. gareth60 29 August 2002, 10:12 £50 was a DIY fit, my dealer wanted £50 to fit them and even he said that was a rip off, but the price is fixed. With a steady hand, they are easy to fit and as I said, £30 at a local body shop to spray them. Most good sprayers will have a colour matching book and with your body colour code, get a perfect match. Gareth. NINJA 31 August 2002, 18:08 caution..u will def need plasticiser(not sure about spelling)or they will crack and look cack kenny.c 03 September 2002, 19:11 got colour coded rubbing strips on my my97 it looks great and has also saved my door several times |
