Mine are painted, however now becoming chipped and can't be bothered with them full stop now. ozzy 19 August 2002, 16:03 I've heard of a few cars with them off completely. The only thing that put me off the idea was the wiring for the indicator is right behind the vents and tends to hang down. OK for the dry, but might be a prob in wet weather. Suppose you could wrap them in something or use cable ties to keep them out of the way. I think some cars have fitted some mesh instead. Stefan Devil's Refugee 19 August 2002, 16:51 Hmmm....seen a few with meshed varieties. Wonder if anyone has turned them into brake ducts ? That would work I guess. ozzy 19 August 2002, 17:03 Scoobymania sell a kit but it fits underneath the front bumper. IainP did this http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=6737, but can't see from the pics if he's using the grills. I wouldn't use rigid piping, but some cheap flexible hose. Would work pretty well combined with some cool mesh :) Stefan Devil's Refugee 19 August 2002, 17:07 Thanx m8 :) hades 30 August 2002, 01:44 I have a possible source who could come up with carbon replacements for these - if anyone is interested, mail me. He's going to be doing me carbon vents to replace the front reflectors on my MY02, which should hopefully appear at one of the Kent meets in the next couple of months. As we don't have a pattern for the classic "orange bits", could do a very good discount for the first person who would be prepared to lend theirs. I'm talking of someone who has done some major work with composites, and is looking to low volume produce small genuine carbon bits to spec if required. Expect costs would be close to most major suppliers GRP bits, but for genuine carbon. Type_RA 31 August 2002, 17:28 I colour coded mine and now they blend in rather than stick out. Real cheap mod and improves the look no end IMHO: http://www.btinternet.com/~c.pinnock/newcar4.jpg msp1 01 September 2002, 21:35 Spurred on by this post I finally got round to doing mine today. Some wet and dry, Royal Silver paint, primer, laquer and 4 hrs later the car look so much better. Touched up my flaps at the same time. Mike |
