I have just purchased an MY99 5dr (Family man you know).
The only thing that annoyes me about it is the poxy rollerblind thingy that's fitted intead of a of parcel shelf.

Does anyone know of a shelf that can be bought. Or has anyone successfully made their own.

The benefits would be:-
Reduced road noise
Will enable me to fit some decent speakers and improve the accoustics.

And you'd be able to get a nodding dog on the back....

You can buy the dashboard vinyl covering stuff from Halfords, I believe. It should be sticky backed, but not 100% sure. (if it isn't then Evostik impact may work...)

Then cut out the correct shape in 1/2" ply wood (marine ply for preference, as it survives being damp better) and cover in the said vinyl.

I did this for my peugeot so I could put my amp on the bottom of it, and it was out of sight to a casual observer, and it made removing the rear ICE install for luggage transport quite easy, as it was just one unit that plugged in :)

(I admit that the ICE wasn't the best, but I was young at the time. ;) The woodwork was good tho! )

Thanks for that, I was thinking along those line but was considering the dreaded MDF instead of ply (I think it's sposed to be good for accoustics).

I take it you were replacing an already fitted parcel shelf? not one of these silly rollerblind afairs. If anybody else has managed to fit one in a 5 Dr Scoob please gis a shout.

Yes - I was replacing one of those plastic bendy things. MDF may be better for accoustics, but I believe ply is better for strength and durability. Either way it should work as long as there is something substantial to rest the edges of the new shelf on.

mdf is heavy as well - when i made an mdf mount for my olde astra hatchback the plastic bits it rested on broke off after 6 months! it sounded like someone threw a brick in the rear windows... :(
