Not knowing much about hoovers except how to switch them on and off, my Mum says her Dyson rules, dunno which model, but being almost obsessional about keeping the house clean, its the best recommendation I know. Its upright by the way, not a cylinder model if that makes a difference.
I think Dysons are the best BUT they are heavy which means they can be a nuisance to cart up and down the stairs. I got stuffed into buying 2 - one for each floor in the end!! Have managed to sort out any problems myself, once after using their decent helpline. Happy cleaning. PS. Vax much better for car.
just bought our second Vax, the first is still going strong, and is being exported to france.
New one is 6151SX, and sucks like a nympho 18 yr old. Will also wash floors, suck up building debris, and, once you change the silly paper bag for a Vax cloth one, it'll out perform any Dyson.
Believe me..I don't buy crap, I've got a Scooby!!!
PS: if Subaru made vacuum cleaners, they'd prolly be badged "Vax"!!

Sebo for upright cleaners Built like tanks 2year labour guarantee and 5 year parts. Or Miele for a cylinder, once again built like tanks.
Dysons pffft
Jim
p.s I sell them all so I do have an unbiased opinion honest
(and I bought a Sebo with my own cash)

"Got a mate who works at Comet and he says they get more Dyson returns than all other vacuum cleaners put together.... "
Here we go.... the monthly Vacuum thread!!! Well as mentioned My "Dyson " contact... has had a few and they have all broken!! They have a terrible reputation for "Returns".. "Miele" all day long.
Have you seen the new Dyson Washing machine!!!!!!

Dyson returns?
An allegedly common fault is the power cord breaking because of a lack of strain relief on the older models. Very simple to fix - I've shortened the cable once because of this, and have now replaced the cable with a longer one...
They are simplicity itself to keep running. There's a motor, a few laccy bands and that's it. OK, it might not be the point that you can take them apart easily, but it's nice that any kid off the street can fix them if they become jammed, whatever.
So my vote is for Dyson

had a dyson- it fell apart- it got chucked, would never own another. (although they are very clever cause they make a load of car loving mugs think that their a bit cool even when it comes to their cleaning

Damn clever marketing - they turned a household appliance into a "gadget". Making the collection point clear was a moment of genius - you can see the amount of crap they pick up, so even if they picked up less then it still *looks* impressive.
Had ours 5 years and it's going strong. Parents have had one for just over a year and a wheel keeps falling off.

I've had a Dyson DC07 for nearly a year. Have had to call Dyson out because the belt came off. They made a modification to the motor and its fine now. The customer service is superb, they came out to my house within a few days. I wouldn't but another make of vacuum.
Never got service like that with my Electrolux.

We got a Dyson DC04 a while ago. It sickens me to see the cr@p that was in our carpet after i've hoovered it !!
Luke - we bought one of the washing machines. How cool is it !!! It looks like the starship enterprise in the kitchen !!

Had a Dyson DC04 for ages (3 years or so). No problems at all, except for a snapped belt in the brush unit. Guy came out, fixed it, v. cheaply, and replaced the cable (to fix the aforementioned problems) free-of-charge. Very impressed, and would buy 'em again.
Dyson - Animal one (with turbo
) 8 cyclone thingy.
We hoovered our carpet twice in two days trying to get rid of cat hair(at the risk of mentioning animals in a thread
) and gave up eventually and went out to buy a dyson. Once around the house and it had picked up a full cylinder of cr*p - even after hoovering the carpet twice in two days with a normal hoover
No trouble with ours - best thing I've brought for the house

Had a Dyson - a triumph of looks over function and hugely overhyped
- as a vacuum cleaner it was pretty inefficient
- now got a Panasonic which does actually do what it is supposed to do.

Dunno what people with Dysons who are unhappy are doing, but our DC07 is superb. It even slightly lifts the carpet off the floor underneath it as it has such strong vacuum.
Couldn't recommend them more.

Miele is the best make out there for household appliances. I've had mine 11 or 12 years and it still goes as good as it did when I bought it. My mother in law has a 25-year old Miele Dishwasher. Depends on what your looking for but essentially they work well and don't break down. I've got Dryer and Washing machine as well, only had those 3 years though and no problems.

Get wooden floors and a swiffer.
ugh, all that **** in carpets makes my skin crawl.
On the Dyson argument, my boss had a 2 year old Dyson that he used extensively while we were renovating our offices (he's a bit strange) and obviously it ended up wrecked. He sent it back to Dyson and for £50 (I think) they rebuilt it. It came back looking and working like brand new, sounds like a bargain to me.

Our Dyson works faultlessly, too - sucks like a Welsh tart in the back of an Escort. I think the problem is that people forget they need to wash the filters regularly - if we forget to do ours more than once every 3-4 months it does reduce the efficiency.
Oh, and we have wooden floors, and I totally agree - loads better. But the Dyson still works on them!

We have a DC04 and it's ****e. always overheating and you can't get at the motor without those annoying screwdrivers to see why it's unhappy.
won't be buying another (have lost count of how many times I've had to replace belts and clean **** out of the brushes etc)
