As an IT contractor is see nothing wrong with "£11,600 every time a technician is called out"

Fair days work, for a fair days pay.

Edited for poor spelling, that will be another £11,600 please.

This is the level of wastage happening throughout the country at the moment in government departments. Just think how much more there will be if President Tony took over at Buckingham Palace...

"The cost of a new computer project for the probation service is contributing to a cash crisis.

The National Probation Service's new deal with computer firm Integris sees a charge of £11,600 every time a technician is called out on a Sunday.

On weekday evenings between 6pm and 10pm the charge is £2,661, while on Saturdays the cost per visit is £8,704.

It also costs £12,000 to move a computer from one office to another."

My Mum used to work for Bucks and Oxon probation service - that computer system still hasn't been fully implemented, and apparently is prone to crashing on a regular basis - and its not even a complicated program or o/s, just a Windows based (says it all) application!!

What a waste of money!!

That's nothing, they should have given the project to EDS if they really wanted to see it f***ed up.

A Crown Court near me has just spent £8,000 on a flat screen TV to tell the public (that's you lot) what's going on in each individual courtroom. They used to have an usher do that amongst other things.

Also, it has just implemented a new computer system that we barristers sign onto when we're in court. Of course, a pen and paper is far too expensive, so I can see that using a £2,000 flat screen PC for JUST THAT and NOTHING ELSE, would be a cost saving exercise.

The Home Office are having a state of the art new building which will cost £6m. That's around 250 new PC's on the beat.

There is SO much wastage. Has this government done anything right?

M.

There is approximately £150 million currently being wasted in Northern Ireland on the Bloody Sunday enquiry! Purely another concession to terrorists.

ps Before any other NI folk start, i'm not condoning/condemning what happened on that day but where is the sense on wasting the price of a couple of hospitals merely to make barristers rich!
