Jazzy, we couldve done loads of trick set ups inc rear postive toe, softer tyres and more front camber & caster but the whole ethos was to drive there and back on road tyres with a road/track biased set up...
It worked - just..!

Are they not track tyres? How do you rate them? Thinking of getting a set for the hawk for fast road use.

Well done with the time, comparing times with a works outfit doesn't make any sense. Closed track = 100% attack and one of the best rally drivers ever at the wheel!

A048R's are road legal track tyres...std on the likes of Lotus's etc.

Great tyres but you have to warm them up an dbe very aware of wet or damp roads..

AD08's are better for road/track use as still pretty good on damp wet tracks..

Sell a lot of these for nissan gtr's and big power cars

Hope that helps

I'm not a complete idiot behind the wheel and my opinion on Tommi's (Makinen) lap is that it was a little untidy and littered with small mistakes and errors. However the 'ring is a very tough place to hammer it out and there is no doubting he is a very quick guy - even several years after he retired. For that reason alone Tommi's time was the one to beat. We all know the time attack car was a bit of a monster and may have been capable of faster but not in the hands of any of us mere mortals.

The same goes for the lap in the Revolution car but overall given the conditions it is a stunning achievement and shows that the car is capable of a very quick time indeed. I reckon if they closed the track on a 22C dry day with a headwind on the straights (like all the major manufacturers do when they publish their times) it could crack a phenomenal time around the mid 7's or quicker.

I am also sure that a reasonably well-schooled driver in a well hooked up Impreza that they are familiar with could hook up a decent run close to it if they bashed enough laps out - but we're missing the point here!

Revolution built a bespoke Impreza with all their know how (and learned so much along the way) and have proven to us that it is also a monster of a car that can comfortably set a very quick time indeed. It would have been a good idea for them on the day to have taken something else mentally quick out too for comparison, I doubt any GT3 RSs or GTRs would have set a much quicker time.

I may not make the journey up to Revolution from Warwick instead of heading to Powerstation (who have also built mental spec Imprezas and are just round the corner comparatively), but it's certainly put them on the map so far as I'm concerned with regards to being a serious tuning outfit worthy of consideration and recommendation to others. That is a massive achievement.

Thank you very much for the kind words....

You hit the nail right on the head with our recent achievement, as all the effort, late night working, early starts are worthwhile for what weve ended up with.

The money weve pumped into this build, the massive loss of time in our workshop, the hurdles to climb over to solve so many problems along the way has certainly made us better for it.

Life is all about the journey and not just the end result but we are very proud as to what weve achieved - and to read such nice comments really means a lot to us all here at Revolution HQ

Thanks one and all for supporting us and following the build in Japanese Perf. mag and our facebook page.

Ive done nearly a dozen telephone interviews with various magazines and websites since I got back from as far afield as Croatia and North America.....truly amazing..!

Given us great exposure in new markets and countries..

Happy days indeed

:-)

Well done.

The fact you're only 9 miles up the road from me makes it even better.

Maybe i missed something, i haven't read the post in full..

Which competitions is this vehicle going to be entered into this year?

Its all well and good making a vehicle go fast in a straight line... but pedigree is made by competing against other drivers and companies?

Is Revolution competing at Croft this weekend?

Hi nyscooby

Lots already said in previous posts best to have a look on our facebook page for the full story on it

Car wasnt built for competition but for road use and track use when needed like GT3 porsche, M3 GTS

Nurburgring has lots of bends on it though..
;-)

Enough pedigree by beating Subaru Japans time around the Ring..?

You wouldnt build a car like this for Time Attack, totally different designs of cars, levels of power, comfort and such like.

A few customers came into store today saying only a 100 or so cars in carpark at Croft - not that busy... bored after an hour, so they left.

each to their own as they say..

nothing personal, but haven't got time to go to facebook.

Q. Why would you build a very fast version of a road card for road use only.... if there wasn't going to be a little bit of (race) competition whilst on the road..... and suggest it would be used in the track but its not for competitions, then put it on the Nurbergring...

Q. Nurbergring is a road with race track aspect and rules...

Pedigree suggests a long history of high degree of lineage... that's why i thought your team may wish to show it's "pedigree" by proving it was better than the others...

What car with what engine mods did Subaru Japan run at Nurbergring?

FYI.. Croft today is the warm up and heats, tomorrow is the main competition.

If facebooks not your thing then you could always sign up to our newsletters and we couldve filled you in on its progress that way.
;-)
JP mag covered it each month also if you prefer reading about it - talk of a DVD with the mag telling the whole story later in the year.

Please dont take this wrong but havent got the time to be explaining the whole thought process as to why we built it as its been covered elsewhere so many times previously.

Porsche GT3's, M3 GTS's, CSL's, Spec-C RaR's etc all exist for enthusiasts to have fun on and off track in and competition cars are completeley different.
We have carpets, sound deadening, music, complient suspension, a usable boot etc etc.

You seem to question the Nurburgrings pedigree, its far from a road with track aspects...if youve never been, get yourself over

We could only look at a timed target that Subaru had set - namely Tommi Mak & Co. at the Nurburgring...so thats why we did it..

We had a strong hard look at Time Attack a few years ago and to be honest the concept does nothing for us...

We never set out to be better than anyone or any company really, just tried to show the world we can build great cars and we love the Ring and its heritage so the project started from there..
Some love it, some hate it, some arent sure - but either way, the media and our customers are talking about us to their friends and family and on forums like this one..

Already talk of building something special for our 20th anniversary - no idea what it is but hopefully the debate will be as striong as ever..!

Hope that helps explain a little

Wasn't questioning the Nurburgring's pedigree...... they don't build cars.

Not sure you understand the definition of pedigree...

Pedigree, erm understand that

Hence why I used it relating to the Nurburgring, but you were saying the Ring was a road with race aspects...have you ever been..?

If were having a debate on why we built the car, then answer my points as i took time to answer yours

I only got 1 question from your last post, "have you ever been". Answer, nope.

And several statements.... which are all fair enough points to make.
My opinion, pedigree is RCM, Abbey Motorsport... etc.

You didn't answer my question, what car and tuning options was the Subaru Japan car running?

Did a search..

The lap, which was completed in a blisteringly fast 7:53.08 is nearly two seconds quicker than Tommi Makinen’s lap in 2011. Makinens lap, however, was completed in a production model STI. The Revolution Motorsports ‘Project STI Nurburgring’ took a total of four months to build, and will be offered to customers in a limited run of 10 vehicles. The car is based on the JDM-spec STI. http://www.gtspirit.com/2013/05/08/v...ng-lap-record/

Mäkinens lap was not in a production model, it was a prototype sporting larger turbo, lightweight body panels, bigger brakes, flat bottom underside, roll cage etc..
I think it makes the 2004 Spec C lap of 7:59 more impressive. Shame they never officially timed the RA-R.
And while the Revolution car isn't to my tastes it is a good time for what is a road legal Impreza. Some good driving and a capable car in my opinion.

Hi again

Missed your question as didnt have a Q. on it like the others...long day and all that.

I know i didnt ask you many direct questions but raised points to your questions, respond if you wish..

Subaru Japan supposed to have ran a stock Spec-C, but only 4kmh slower than our sti on an uphill straight section out of Galgenkopf..

Either my maths is poor or it wasnt stock....

Apparently they had 2 days prior to their lap testing on a closed track with local female instructor.

Going back to pedigree - we never set out to be better than other tuners, we built what we thought would be an our dream Impreza..
Some build extreme cars for drag, sprints, time attack or lots of fun at all things be it road or track.

Think weve found the balance.....

good pointers Nic

If subaru built cars like the S206 and Ra-R's for release in the UK - i would have one on order..

Then went out to the Ring and put in some stunning times and chased Nissan and Porsche times to show the world how good they are, they wouldnt have such a lul in sales

Pedigree was their backbone and they seem to have forgotten about the massive following in favour of XV's and Foresters drivers..

Tried to get a hold of S206 when launched but just gave up as hit so many dead ends trying to locate one
:-(
So we built a great car ourselves and got on with it....

Yep, fair play to you (Revolution) you've put your money where your mouth is so to speak.

I would have loved an RA-R and if I hadn't have been lucky enough to pick up my 'new' Spec C I don't think I'd be driving an Impreza now. I agree, they've forgotten their following.

nyscooby, I can't recommend a trip to the 'ring highly enough, plus it will certainly put into perspective the Revolution Impreza lap time.

At the end of the day Glenn
Your finished project was a success
In both terms as bringing the "revolution" brand forward & also fulfilling your own dream & goal .
Personally I think all this talk of heritage , pedigree etc etc has nothing to do with Glenn's take on the whole project .

cheers for nice comments guys...

1.3 miles of Croft vs 14.5 miles of the Ring is of no comparison imho....

It would give me no greater pleasure than if subaru came back with a ltd edition Spec-c type RAR ltd edition 1 of 10 and done the nissan GTR time in as well as ours..
:-)
