Driven mine in the snow and as said above, no problems pulling away when others were struggling but stopping and handling was pretty much the same as any other car I've driven on snow.
Take it steady and slowly and you will be fine. The most important thing is planning ahead when it comes to stopping, give your self plenty of room to slow down gradually and not have to stamp on the brakes trying to stop....you won't!

Tell me Im not reading this! Im guessing here that you are 22 years of age, consider acting your age, and think about other road user next time you fancy putting everyone around you at risk. Overtaking in snow as a junior driver is not a laughing matter.
I have 14 years driving experience and I find that each winter is challanging as the conditions can vary so much. The same road with the same amout of snow fall each year will likely differ in driving conditions due to freeze temp, wind chill and changes in your car.
I found that the extra lag in boost with the GT30 (400rpm over the VF35) actually helped in the snow as I wasnt boosting as early which meant I could maintain momentum in the same gear for longer without surge thus wheel spin.

I've always found the scoob fine in the snow even using michelin ps3's. The trick seems to be using the engine to slow the car rather than the brakes. Only use the brakes at very slow speed.
Pulling away has never been an issue with the the sti, just use 2nd gear.

Heading towards a driveway with a brand new Q7 and a Carrera 4 RS sitting on it....
you can guess what my backside was doing at this point!!! managed to change direction, and with some assistance from a very kind brick wall I came to a halt.Fortunately it was a very low wall so there was minor damage to my bumper. I was only crawling along but I couldn't stop; I must say I was dissapointed.

Great fun, and it IS great overtaking people 
- when safe to do so... 
Even summer tyres are good - you just have to constantly re-assess your level of grip - and as others say - brakeing on ice is as much a problem as for anyone else - winter tyres are a definate advantage... The perception that the Scoob is 'bad' for braking in the snow may come from the confidence inspired by the superior traction of AWD which does help in a steady bend,as well as pulling away or travelling up an incline - BUT it means you tend to be travelling faster than other traffic would - which due to no superior ability when braking means you NEED to start braking EARLIER... 
Another warning for winter conditions is to realise that bridges due to having winter air passing under them and not being insulated under the road surface like normal roads, are much more likely to be icy under the snow. I found this out after having carefully driven over a small bridge in a Legacy 2.2GX saloon - my first Scoob - it just spun and ended up facing the wrong way on a country lane near Kielder Forrest, nearly down a river bank. Fortunately the AWD did its job and pulled us back onto the road with no fuss. I really crawled along the rest of that road LOL - took bloomin' ages!!!

THose that say the impreza is only just better than 2wd or not that are obviously trying to make the car do something that the majority of AWD or 4wd cars couldnt do. Inducing understeer/oversteer, braking too sharply, not thinking ahead etc is going to make any car feel skittery in the ice.
Driving in snow/ice is not about getting anywhere as quickly as you would in the summer. It is about getting there in one piece without having nor causing an accident. Take your motor into a carpark and see exactly what it can do if unsure....

Im on my 5th Scooby now.. Had many winters driving them. I`m North of Aberdeen, so we get quite a bit of Snow..... (And it hangs about for too long as well)... I`m Nae a big fan of the white stuff..... 
Last year was the first time I`d driven a Scooby without ABS, as my Type-RA doesn`t have it... What a difference it makes (For The Better).
A Scooby is a better car than most in the snow, but it still boils down to knowing your own driving limits and keeping showing off to open spaces with only your own ego that gets hurt when/if you bump your Scooby..
I`m not lucky enough to be afford the luxury of winter tyres (I know I should)... But, I seem to get along sweetly in bad snow days, with just a smooth right foot, a keen eye ahead and judgment, engine braking most of the time............... And staying the hell away from young corsa boys who seem to think they`ve won the WRC when they overtake me just before they bounce of evey kerb afterwards.. LoL...

So, hoping every one has a safe Winter and all your Scoobies are unscathed ready for the Spring..

Winter/snow tyres should be a definite. When I had my MY99 UK, I made a switch and essentially bypassed the ABS fuse so that I could turn it off when necessary in the snow.
I found that both my MY99 & MY95RA handled very well in the snow but as others have said, its not the getting started, its the stopping. Its also a different mindset in the driving stakes.

my scoobys has been great on the snow when all other cars were going no where fast i.e my mates r33 gts lol, and has for the abs you odnt just put your foot down hard on the brake you pump the brake just liek in the day before abs it works for me, i cant wait for some more snow

now now...had a pajero last year the wife drove with the kids...my gl wagon was sound great fun...turbo was only out 2 times and just slid about madly when in came into boost...fun tho

I got winter tyres for this year, but a bit disappointed as not had any snow to test them on, but other than stopping downhill my re070 tyres performed well last year and I never had any major issues at all
