Cant stand the 996. Tested one before I bought my e46 years ago and was totally underwhelmed. Would have tonne the 997.2 or a 997.1 with new engine.
Perhaps i in need to build my own car. Porsche with an ls engine could be fun. Probably cheaper to just buy a vette though!

So.
I think ive narrowed it down to:
C6 Z06 - £35k - looks like supercar and goes like one
C5 Z06 supercharged upto 610 bhp on ebay £24k
C63 amg with LSD - saloon not coupe approx £22k
XKR 5.0. £25k 510 bhp
E92 M3 £19k
997.1 C2S £21k - without an engine build. but 14k cheaper than a z06. that would buy a lot of eninge i think? Especially if i waited for a blow 997.

Yeah i blew the budge and bought the vette!
2006 Corvette Z06. 565bhp ~ 1400kg - Very Very LOUD!
For those who dont know these cars are fantastic machines.
7 L V8 stock produces 505, but cammed and headers to 565
Carbon fibre wings and wheel liners
Magnesium roof and engine cradle
Alloy chassis
Dry sump engine with titanium con rods and valves
325 section rubber
~one million torques
massive brakes
Heads up display with G Meter
All the car I could ever want. It handles great and i look forward to many years of motoring.

the old C63 may look like a taxi, but i still love em, was in Sweden last week with work and i stepped out of the restaurant and 1 went pas sounded amazing he kept on blipping the throttle so loud ....
What about a proper 2 seater like a caterham or atom ? or too much hardcore..

C63 is the best sounding car I've had the pleasure of owning.
I'm actually putting mine up for sale this year as I was planning on replacing it with an E63 - but the 5.5 version, not the older 6.2 version.
I've had the C63 for around 2 years now, and cold startup still makes my smile
