I have an sti that pops and bangs on overrun, down change, change up, depends on how i use the throttle or not. I'm guessing as its mapped that this was mapped in - i did not have it mapped myself.

However, i do know the mapper - TDR in Warkwick and trust me he knows his stuff.

I can try and get a vid if you like see if its the kind of thing you are looking for - then maybe give TDR a call. He's the most helpful guy i've met in the scooby world and thats saying something !!

I've been looking over my ALS tables in ESL and have a few suggestions.
There are some tables you won't have like late spark and ICV override but from what I can see,you want to have fuel enrichment, ignition retard and negative manifold pressure.

This might be worth a try,I might stick these settings in mine if I get time and try on my way home this morning, see if I can get some pops&bangs without flicking my ALS switch:

Top row of ignition: 14*
Top row of fuel: 11 AFR
Top row of boost target: -1.00 increasing to -0.49 up the RPM range
Re-injection: 2400RPM

Couldnt think of anything worse to have on a car like that red vid above.

What a nightmare to drive that would be.... Need it on a switch so you dont sound like a yobbo constantly

Ok cheers bud, something like this ?

Im assuming 0 in the duty cycle will give the best negative manifold pressure as its just running off its own actuator settting etc ?

I guess im after pops during the gear change mainly, i havent changed my fuel table as i notice i do go down to around 12ish on my AFR gauge momentarily during shift and this brings on a pop now n again so mocked up the below to see if thats what you mean ?

cheers bud

I didn't get chance to try and the snow was coming down heavy early this morning so didn't want to mess with the car on my way home.
Yes I recon those settings are worth a go,although since re-injection/overrun will be set to 2400 then your AFR could be kept to your normal settings from 800-2400 range.

i'd say they are worth a go too - the reinjection is for idle conditions though as far as I know so it's not related to to the target AFR it's meant to stop the car stalling out when you close the throttle.

With the above settings you'll still have to apply some throttle, but it may be as handy to log /trace a live run with coast down and see which cells your hitting that way you'll know for sure.

Ok cheers guys, will apply these settings and see if it improves things.

As you say Bludgod, running a live trace shows how many cells you actually use and which ones never get used, this is the thing tho, as im wanting more pops say during the gear change, it doesnt always hit the lowest engine load point quick enough during a gear change for the settings to make affect, hence i was thinking of amending load points 4, 6 and 9 so its guaranteed to use one of the 3 load points

yeh I know what you mean, just check your cruising load as well when gently moving in traffic as you definitely don't want to hit that low low timing/high fuel area when trying to nudge forward in traffic (otherwise you'll be in kangaroo mode) so some logging should show you where you hit and where you dont and you can adjust from there.

well, did a quick trace test whilst picking kids up :-)

Obviously when you throttle off in gear the trace goes to lowest load point , but inbetween gear changes it traced to around the 9 and 12 load points

light throttle in traffic at standstill was around 12 to 15

So, for throttle off in gears the lowest load point is the one to fiddle with, but, for those in between gear changes it looks like load points 4, 6, 9 and 12 are the ones to play with, but as you say, dont really want timing at 14 around these areas so hmmmm ??????

Did noptice tho, timing reads 18 yet load points 4 and 6 even it were interpolating are both 22 ?

It idles with the lights on at load point 6 , with no lights on at load point 4

I know this is no help to the OP but that one doesn't sound healthy, that metallic pinging noise can't be good surely?

I agree, that pinging noise doesnt sound good, i assumed it was the type of exhaust casuing it ?

For richer afr's at closed loop is another option too- most afr gauges have feature to emulate narrowband lambda and with the software u can change, what it show's to ecu, there's no point to mess with maf or injector scaling for that. From some point, the ecu is unable to lean mixture up, maybe like 20% to both sides, if u mess with map, u could reach these areas easily. When i played with my car with old engine, i made load calculation to double figures for more precise light cruise (engine load 60 1bar of boost ) U can change it other direction too, then its dramatically rich on low load conditions.

Cheers for input bud , but my AFR gauge isn't linked up to ECU so wouldn't be able to alter anything

well im guessing after my dabbling tonight, to achieve these settings and get them to work you must have the Motorsport pack only.

I tried idle at 14 , wouldnt go below 17, i tried the entire top row at 14, held throttle open to trace along this column, wouldnt log at 14, was around the mid 20`s.

The only time the timing matched the table was over 1600 rpm and if the timing was above around 26 degrees.if below 26 it wouldnt match the table at all.

Also, you cannot create more vaccum (negative pressure) so thats a no go as well, you just get what the car is making i guess.

didnt mess with fuel or anything as wasnt worth messing the car up.

Yeh sorry it didn't work out,I guess some of the extra tables in my Motorsport pack don't apply to the non Motorsport.
My ALS has negative boost, retarded ignition and plenty of enrichment.
It's a shame you can't see&hear what happens when i flick the ALS switch,it totally changes the car and sounds so aggressive, even on idle.

you should try setting fuel to 12.0 in your negative timing zone you'll get a bit more show to it - on a sidenote though, howcome so rich on fuel can you not get vpower or do you have some kind of induction kit fitted that's not scaled in and skewing the fuel table (or perhaps fuel was added until the knock stopped on the JDM timing map)? Also whats up with the AVCS table, flat 30 then straight to zero? Is this a JDM STI car or a STI ecu in a WRX. You should have a go at the carberry map - launch control is much improved over the regular opensource patch and you can have a little fun with the antilag on mild settings if you really want pops and bangs
