The way i do it is via usenet/torrents over Plex, so i get 1080p (i hate anything under 720p) Motogp for example onto my 42" TV All you need is a PC and smart TV with DLNA, or a console with the Plex app which is free to use for streaming. Also very intuitive to use with a decent interface. My setup is automated via RSS feeds, so i plug in what i want to watch, leave it til release day, come back and its all waiting to be viewed which is nice. Very good for TV series too obviously as well as sport.

Are you able to watch BT Sports in a web browser tab (in addition to the actual app) on your iPhone? Yes/no?
If yes, read on...
Install the "Tubio" streaming app on your iPhone. Then you can cast ANY webpage to a smart Wi-Fi TV that has a DLNA media renderer/server app installed (it can also cast any videos or pictures on your phone, too).
All you have to do is open your TV's own DLNA app on the TV. Then open Tubio on the phone and choose the same DLNA by clicking on the 'Select TV' icon (extreme bottom-right). Then, using Tubio's own web search facility, go to the BT Sports webpage, click the channel you want (press 'play/start' or whatever, as necessary) and hey presto, the stream should appear on the telly in fullsize.
* Tubio is awesome. I've just installed it on my 5s and am currently beaming (tons'o'**** LOL ) to my projector, via an Android box's 'eHomeMediaCenter' DLNA app.

Also Nero streaming player is pretty good at sending media stored on the phone to the TV
Can't get TVassist to work; it can see my DLNA servers/renderers but nothing happens

I suffered that at first! It was doing my noggin in!
Is it trying to download the web vids to the phone instead? Mine did.
But I sussed it in the end...
Go into Settings (the little cogwheel icon, extreme top right).
Turn OFF 'Download online media before playing', under Options.
Then scroll down to Service, and turn ON both of the 'Work as a media renderer' and 'Work as a media server' options.
Close down app.
Relaunch, and now it should work.
Be aware, I've found out that it doesn't play every video codec (as doesn't Tubio). But by using both apps as necessary, then between them, they should cover most file types.

I tried that app yesterday, as it happens!
It would only work with my Android-based MINIX NEO X7 box... But not via my Panasonic DMP-BDT220EB Blu-ray player for some reason. Even though it was 'seeing' its built-in renderer/server.
In any case, I didn't like it; for the simple reason it doesn't allow the option to operate the video transport controls via the iPhone itself. Plus, it took too long to throw the video to the screen, when compared to the other apps mentioned.
