I'm undecided at the moment but even my local dealer who can't order one has offered to buy it off me which seems random that they would be willing to shell out the full asking price.

My apologies, I did originally say the mk2 when you quoted they are very similar... I can't make an honest judgement on the underside similarities, as like most of the world? I haven't seen any of the car in reality yet.

I too like the look of the new RS especially the fact its 4wd as tuning it will allow the power to be delivered to the road, But would agree that when I moved from my Subaru STI to the RS I did not get that feeling it was built to last. The Subaru had thin light panels but underneath the running gear was quite heavy duty, built to last. On the Focus underneath it felt mainly like a focus with some RS tweaks added and rusted like mad unless waxoil applied early. I guess I always felt the Scooby was more well put together mechanically than the MK2 RS I owned from new..... But as others have said the RS held its value better than any other car I have owned Scooby included.

Not when you compare it to something like a Type R with plated diffs etc and dccd switching bias to the rear when the handbrake was lifted, with group N clearly in mind, and the newage STI gear box was beefed up specifically for rallying.
You couldn't even buy a 4wd focus back then.

Anywho, I managed to find a half reasonable shot of the underside of the new STi as well. So here we go.

Because some of us ordered in September with deliveries due in the next 3 months if you order now you will have to wait 12 months. Simple maths
After the initial orders Ford put the price up £1k so if you order now not only a long wait but more expensive.

I still can't believe how *cheaply* Ford have priced this.
I know they are unlikely to be discounting, but:-
£29995 for a Focus RS
£28035 for a 180ps diesel Mondeo with 4WD ???
Compared with
£39620 for an Audi RS3
£34675 for a new 190ps diesel A4 Quattro
Wrong on both counts - 1) Against the opposition; 2) Within their own range
Well done to everyone who can afford one !

That was a completely different era when Subaru were heavily involved in the WRC and stuff like the type R had to exist for homologation purposes. Where as the Focus never had to be homologated for the WRC, if it did we may have seen one years ago.

so I'm having a dilemma. do i sell my 09 sti and order one of these or not? pro's = 1. no £500 tax, 2. cheaper servicing (i work for ford so get discount) cons = 1. the lovely sound of the flat 4. 2. The rarity (turns a few heads as there's very few in my area) 3. the price. will these be 2 a penny? i know that from what I've written that the cons outweigh the pro's but theres much more to consider. i would like to drive one before making a commitment but so far it seems unlikely to be able to do so.
